The Arts, Natural & Social Sciences faculty collaborates with the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) in offering a number of Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) Associate Degrees. Programmes Offered:

Pre-University Arts (Associate Degree in Humanities)

Candidates may choose 3 of the following CAPE subjects: History, Sociology, Law, Literatures in English, Spanish, Geography,  Economics

For the CAPE Associate Degree, the areas of specialization are as follows:

  • History  –  History and Law and one other subject
  • Sociology- Sociology and History and one other subject
  • Law         –  Law and Literatures in English and one other subject

Campus & Mode: Montego Bay – Day

 

Pre-University Business (Associate Degree)

Candidates  are required to take Management of Business, Accounts or Sociology and Economics.  For the CAPE Associate Degree, the areas of specialization are as follows:

  • Accounts   –  Management of Business and Accounting and one other subject
  •  Economics –  Management of Business and Economics and one other subject

Campus & Mode: Montego Bay – Day.

 

Pre-University Arts & Business (Associate Degree)

Candidates may choose 2 of the following CAPE subjects: History, Sociology, or Management of Business. Additionally, CAPE    Information Technology in year 1, Law in Year 2, College Accounts in Year 1, and Psychology  in Year 2 are compulsory.

For the CAPE Associate Degree, the areas of specialization are as follows:

  • Sociology  –  Sociology and History
  • Accounts   –  Management of Business and Accounting

Campus & Mode: Montego Bay – Day.

 

Pre-University Sciences (Associate Degree in Natural Sciences)

Candidates may choose 3 of the following CAPE subjects Mathematics, Chemistry  or Geography, Biology, Physics, Environmental Science. 

For the CAPE Associate Degree, the areas of specialization are as follows

  • Natural Sciences  –  Physics and Chemistry and one other subject
  •  – Physics and Biology and one other subject
  •  – Biology and Chemistry and one other subject

Environmental Studies – Environmental Science and Geography and one other subject

Campus & Mode: Montego Bay—Day, Westmoreland—Day

 

Preliminary Sciences (1 Yr UWI Program)

Preliminary Sciences is offered in collaboration with the University of the West Indies. The  Preliminary Sciences Programme gives matriculation to the Faculties of Medical Sciences, Engineering and Pure and Applied Sciences at UWI.

Candidates may choose 3 of the following  subjects:

  • Mathematics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology
  • Physics

Applicants should complete application forms for both UWI and MBCC. UWI application should be submitted by July 28, 2017. Transfer to the Mona Campus is not automatic; students are required to re-apply to the UWI.

CAPE Entry Requirements:
Applicants should satisfy UWIs lower level matriculation:

At least 5 CXCs Gen. I, II or GCE O Levels, A, B, including English Language and one of the following:

  • A foreign Language
  • Mathematics
  • An approved science subject
  • Or Geography
  • X3
